An insurance company commissioned us to demolish a fire-damaged property in Brisbane that contained asbestos. The project had a number of challenges. The site was remote, the remnants of the building were structurally unstable and there was widespread asbestos debris scattered around the property. There were no services available, because of the remoteness of the site, which meant there was no water.
We met the challenges by using specialist demolition equipment and water trucks to help contain any spread of asbestos fibres. A hygienist monitored the air constantly, and we conducted a comprehensive soil scrape of the area after the demolition.
