What is asbestos?

Asbestos is a material made up of a collection of minerals that naturally occur in the environment but are not good for human health. Asbestos was banned from further use in Australia in 2003; however, houses built before this ban often contain asbestos.

Many old houses will have asbestos in their walls, ceilings, floors and roofs. This is when a licensed asbestos removalist is required, to carefully remove asbestos from your property, allowing you to get on with your home renovation or project safely.

Friable and non-friable asbestos explained

Friable asbestos refers to all asbestos-containing materials that are dry and can easily be crumbled into a powder. Friable asbestos has a higher health risk as the fibres are more easily inhaled.

Non-friable asbestos, on the other hand, refers to asbestos fibres that are stored within a solid material and are less likely to be disturbed or damaged; for example, non-friable asbestos can be found inside fibre cement sheeting or vinyl floor tiles.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I used GBAR group for some class A and B asbestos removal for my renovation job. I found the manager Jason helpful and responsive throughout the quoting process. The job supervisor Waylon was professional and helpful throughout the job.

We had some issues with the waste removal subcontractor who did not show up when scheduled and caused significant damage (30% of job cost) to our fence by running over it with their truck. Despite some initial hurdles, Jason was ultimately helpful in this process too and managed it to a satisfactory repair for the fence. Ideally there would be no damage in the first place, but this was the next best outcome.

I would use GBAR again but I would be wary of their waste contractor ALD Corporate, who caused the damage and were difficult to work with on the repair.

There are a lot of shoddy asbestos companies out there who will remove asbestos without even testing it (we know as we have come across lots of them). Jason and the GBAR team always come to inspect, sample and have analysis run at the lab before quoting on your project. They have third party hygienists and verification process for quality assurance and peace of mind

GBAR work are trusted to work in schools and commercial projects and we will always trust them with our homes too.
